Extended Essay
Talk about the Extended Essay.
Extended Essay Rules - BE SURE TO READ THESE before starting a thread!
1. Just to make it clear - we will not give you a topic for your EE, but we will help you refine and expand on your original ideas for a topic. You are marked on your choice of topic so we can't help you with that.
2. Before doing anything, read the Extended Essay for Dummies thread. At the very least, we recommend you take a look at the 5 Cardinal Rules of the EE!
3. Before asking anything about format or requirements for the extended essay, we suggest you read the IB Extended Essay Guide first (which you can download from here).
4. Make your thread titles descriptive. At the minimum, mention the subject area and if you have one, the topic! For instance "History EE on Nazi Propaganda" is better than "EE help please". The people who know about history and nazi propaganda will click on the first thread and probably miss the second one. Help us to help you - give it an accurate title!

Hello people, I just came back from the bookstore from where I bought Charles ****ens' Hard Times. I chose this book to write the EE on but before I start reading it seriously, I would like to have some input from those who have already read it and are perpared to help clarify what kind of EE can I write about it. Right now, I am still not sure about what an English A1 EE should be written about! Please please share your thoughts with me. I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance to all those who can share their thought with me

I am currently writting my EE in physics, and i was wondering does someone know anything about sound? My research question is about sound isolation, thus involving sound absorbation and reflection. My problem is that i have problem finding sources to explain the things happening in a correct way. So i wondered maybe someone in here knows something about sound and stuff and maybe can direct me to find some sources.

Im still in the delimma on which subject to choose for EE since our school is useless i need your opinion on this...im LOST!!! First Arabic: it is more straight forward and easier to write..but personally less interesting than bio and comparing writing an essay english to arabic ill always choose english (since the bio EE would be in eng just in case someone didnt understand) Second Biology: this was my choice untill 2 days ago when my teacher called me and said that she just came back from an IB workshop and talked to an EE moderator there and he told her that EE in bio that relate to diseases will usually not score higher than a D (since the IB curriculum changed) and …

Hello all, first post etc. etc. I'm writing my Extended Essay on Stalin's purges, and will examine the extent to which they were centrally planned and the extent to which they became self-perpetuating. Here's my problem: I have a mountain of books in front of me, and they all have their own views. I could quite happily cut out quotes from each book, talk about them, and there's the essay, done, finished. But- Is it enough to take what one historian has said and call it a source? Surely, as a historian, I should be examining primary evidence myself, and formulating my own views and conclusions? After all, one of the books I have right here says something like: 'A…

I have decided to write about Gail Halvorsen, who was a member of the airlift troops involved after the Berlin Blockade. He went above and beyond his duties of delivering food to the blockade victims, by also dropping candy and chocolate form the plane to ease the discomfrot of the children trapped. His efforts are considered of a humanitarian nature, so my discipline could either be in Human Rights or History, but I'm leaning towards History because I heard its extremely hard to classify an essay as human rights. I just can't, for the life of me formulate a thesis topic, as they all seem generic or not worthy enough. ANy help would be appreciated, as I'm pretty much stuc…

Out of curiousity, would it be acceptable to write an EE on a more recent topic? I would not have trouble finding information, and there won't be a matter of history not having been made yet because the event is complete. The EE would be more of an analysis as to why things occured as they did and what led to the results. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

I have decided to write EE in biology. I have two options in mind, however, to do the one I would prefer to do I need some additional information which currently I cannot find anywhere. Basically, I would do gel electrophoresis which means that I need DNA sample. This, however, means that I would have to use human blood. The question is- does IB support using blood to gain DNA samples, if it is done with the approval of the person whose blood is used, blood is taken by a nurse and otherwise safety precautions are followed while working with the blood? If it is ok, where can I find this information's official source? Thank you in advance. -rita

Well summer's out and now I've got to do my EE before the next school year begins. I was contemplating doing a historical EE and focus in on communism. I don't know how to exactly word it to be a precise, yet workable thesis/problem statement. I just want to evaluate communism in comparison to capitalism and why each of these systems fail and suceed in certain situations. I just need to formulate a thesis, problem statement, and how to narrow this broad topic [if necessary]. Does any body have any books, articles, sources or anything else to help me with this EE? Any kind of help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm writing my EE on Lolita, on the significance of how Lolita's name varies throughout the book. I think this should fit in IB's requirement of talking about how the book achieves certain effects through literary devices and treatments. But what I'm really confused about is the format of my essay. For example, how many arguments should I have ideally, how many supporting details and how long the arguments should have and be, etc. If anyone knows where I can find a sample essay, that would be great too. By the way, I can't download the sample essay here because I'm a new comer. ^^;; Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to contact my advisor for quite a while, and recently learned that she had surgery, and will be in the hospital for a while. Hi! I'm doing my EE in Physics. My teacher/ advisor approved my topic but i was reading the syllabus and it said students should aviod trivial experiments. Well, yes, my teacher is brillant... but....she doesn't really care and provides no suggestions. Our school gets rather low grades on our Physics EE's so I thought I would get other people's opinion before I start. My question is: How do the stress and strain of an arch bridge compare to that of a tubular bridge? I can still change the topic now so be as harsh as you can because I haven't built the bridges yet ! Thanks sooo much!

I really really want to do a Biology EE but I have no time or the resources during the summer to do one. I was thinking about doing a biology based history essay instead. However, I'm worried that mixing two extremely different subjects could lower my mark. My topic was going to be about vaccinations and how they suppress our immune system throughout time. The only problem is that vaccines haven't been around that long so the history aspect wouldn't be very enriched.
