Extended Essay
Talk about the Extended Essay.
Extended Essay Rules - BE SURE TO READ THESE before starting a thread!
1. Just to make it clear - we will not give you a topic for your EE, but we will help you refine and expand on your original ideas for a topic. You are marked on your choice of topic so we can't help you with that.
2. Before doing anything, read the Extended Essay for Dummies thread. At the very least, we recommend you take a look at the 5 Cardinal Rules of the EE!
3. Before asking anything about format or requirements for the extended essay, we suggest you read the IB Extended Essay Guide first (which you can download from here).
4. Make your thread titles descriptive. At the minimum, mention the subject area and if you have one, the topic! For instance "History EE on Nazi Propaganda" is better than "EE help please". The people who know about history and nazi propaganda will click on the first thread and probably miss the second one. Help us to help you - give it an accurate title!

Okay, well my EE isn't due for a while, and unfortunately I have a err... not bad because she's brilliant but not a helpful advisor. She won't tell me the minimum word limit for an EE in Physics because I don't think she actually knows.... and she can't give me a yes or no answer if the data collection like charts and stuff count in that word count. I love Physics and I love my physics teacher but I want this crap done so I can work on my Psychology IA... can anyone help? Please and thank yous!!!

As the question says, what font size should we use for the body paragraph of our beloved EE? Smaller ones look nicer, save paper, but I am thinking that the markers have bad eye sight and need slightly larger fonts. What font size did u guys use or want to suggest? I am going crazy on the presentation of EE right now... I will be fine...

hello, first post here! i recently changed topic/supervisor, and I'm now doing my EE on the Visual Arts. I've decided to focus on synesthetic elements of the works of Paul Klee and Kandinsky, and possible titles at the moment are: "What is the significance of synesthesia in the works of Paul Klee and Kandinsky?" or, my supervisor's suggestion, "How is the application of synesthesia significant or meaningful in the works of Paul Klee and Kandinsky?" (not sure about this one, meh..) Anywho my supervisor thinks they need "jazzing up" and I agree, they sound kind of boring as they are. Any help would be much appreciated! G'day, I've brought the plants, which were grown under various conditions, to the public laboratory . All the research (e.g. composition of the plant) was undergone by the researchers there. So I wonder If it is permissible to obtain research data in this way (for my EE) and, if yes, how should I describe the use of help from other sources? Best regards, R.

Our principal and IB coordinator say that starting IB First Examinations 2009, if you get a D in your EE, you lose your diploma. That's pretty scary, does anyone have any info on that? I haven't seen it in any IB regulations or anything but yea if our coordinator is saying it I doubt its false, or is it? P.S. It's funny. =P You can apply to a uni and go like "I got a 42 (which is straight 7's) in IB, but I failed to get the diploma."

Hi everyone! I'm kinda stuck with my EE now, and time is running out... So, I've been doing my EE on loudspeakers. I started out by figuring out the frequency response of two speakers, but now I am in doubt if this will be enough. By research question goes along the lines of : Comparison of two loudspeakers in terms of f. r. After going through a lot of books, it seems that there really isn't much that I can write about it (since I mostly can only write that there is a difference between the speakers, and reason by telling it is because of the way they are made... this ee is quantitatively I believe). Now being done with all the measurements and such, I feel my E…

Hey! I've now completed the first full draft of my Physics Extended Essay. I've heard a lot about people getting bad marks on Group 4 EEs due to their criteria, etc. This is my Extended Essay Supervisor's first experience with an IB EE, so I'm worried she will miss some criteria, etc. I've been wondering if it is okay for me to show the essay to someone else for feedback, and, if thats okay, if anyone here experienced with Physics EEs would be willing to do that. I'm just looking for basic, general feedback, and not line-by-line comments or anything.

Hey guys, may I write using first person on my EE? My supervisor told me to explain how I became motivated and decided to study the topic in my abstract, and I cannot think of any possible way of writing that without using "me" or "I". It currently reads: "The motivation for this study came to me during a visit to an exhibition on da Vinci. (...) I then resolved to study the effects of (...)" etc. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

OK. i know that quite a few people have been asking about the Maths EE already.. BUT. what if: i have a topic in mind that deals with probability in a kind of dice/gambling game. but somehow it seems to me like an extension of some kind of maths coursework in probability. of course, the depth to which i aim to reach is beyond what would be dealt with in an IA.. but should there be a greater contrast between the two? actually, this question can be applied to all subjects.. for e.g. what, apart from the technicalities of no of words, etc differentiates a history IA from an EE in history? i need to send in at least 2 possible topics in as soon as possible (…

So I want to do an EE on either Math or Physics, I take both courses at HL and score well on them, and I really like the subjects. At least those basic requisites are met for me to consider those subjects as EE options. Thing is, as far as I know, nobody in my school, ever, has done an EE on Math, because the "simple" act of choosing an appropriate question seems insanely difficult. I guess this lies in the nature of Math, there can't really be much of your own investigation since when it comes to pure math, anything you do has probably already been done by someone two millennium ago or so. I was wondering if anyone could offer some ideas? I've read the EE booklet a…

Hi, I'm doing my EE in Biology, and it requires doing statistics on my results...my question is, is it better to use a GDC or Excel in doing the calculations and just putting the final result with something like "done using Excel" or is it better to work out the calculations in the paper? Looking at old EE's i saw that people do either one, but the ones who worked out calculations had higher marks - does IB mark down for not working them out? thanks

My EE is on the US in the Korean War and I have 3 potential questions. As you should know the question is worth I think 4 or 5 marks out of the total...i forget the total...like 36 or something. 1: To what extent was the US intervention into the Korean War an extension of the Truman Doctrine? 2: To what extent was the US intervention into the Korean War due to the Truman Doctrine, the United Nations, Korea's strategic placement within Asia, and the Document NSC-68? 3: To what extent was the US intervention into the Korean War inevitable? Hopefully I can pick one before the 26th: when it is due. Thanks to everybody who can help me.

Hi! I have a couple of problems: I read on one of the posts that you cannot write an EE if you've used the book you've submmited material on. My problem is that I changed teachers this year and since my former teacher assured me we wouldn't be doing King Lear in class, I did my EE on this book... but the second teacher changed his mind and he put King Lear in part 3 (oral commentary)--I was half way through my essay when this happened. By the time I do my commentary, my EE will be done, but what happens if I have to do it on King Lear by chance? Will this count as submitting work and an EE on the same book? And finally, do you think this question (well, not actually…

I'm writing English A2 EE and I need some help from native speaker of Russian language. The point is whether English influenced Russian. In Polish mainly young people use a lot of English-origin vocabulary. I'd appreciate if somebody could contact me (preferably via email: [email protected]) and answer some questions. Is Russian influenced by English. I bet it is, so how deeply? And I need a list of about 10 words that are commonly used and derives from English. In Polish vocabulary such as: football, bye, cool, super, handmade, etc. is used, and I need a similar list, however from Russian language. Anyone eager to help? I'd really appreciate it.

Therefore my current research question is how is the molecular structure of porous materials ideal for sound absorption. Hi I just have a few questions about my EE topic. I was thinking of doing something like "Animal Farm and the Russian Revolution". But then I read in the Extended Essay Syllabus about essays from group 2: "it is essential that the focus remains on the culture of the language concerned." The Russian Revolution is not really English culture, but the book itself is written in English and takes place in England - so do you think it is an ok topic? They also say that "Students may choose to analyse texts in a detailed literary fashion, or they may use literary texts as a means of exploring the target language or its culture and society. " I'm very confused right now, so…
