Dear fellow IB history students My initial History IA research question is "How did China affect Korea by getting involved in the Korean War"? However, I find it very difficult to answer this question, so I've changed the research question to "How deeply(To what extent) was the USA involved in the Korean War?" I just wanted to know whether or not this research question has an error. Best regards

Heyy I'm currently searching for possible topics for my history IA and I am supposed to hand in a possible leading question very soon. However, somehow I have not yet been able to decide on a specific topic. I have several possible question, but am not quite sure yet whether they are suitable. The questions are: In how far was the threat from Western Imperialism the primary cause for the Meiji restoration in 1868? To what extend did the Meiji restoration succeed in improving equality in Japan's social system? To what extend did the Matchgirl's strike of 1888 have a significant influence on improvements in working conditions throughout the UK in the 1…

Hi all, I am having a trouble with choosing my topic for the IA. Since I am doing the Americas for Paper 3, I would like to write my IA on the paper 3 topics - great depression & new deal, the cold war and the civil rights. These our some research questions I came up with, I would really appreciate if I could get some help and I really want to hear your opinions! To what extent does Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator accurately portray Hitler’s personality? How successfully did the New Deal programs resolve the economic crisis? What was the purpose of the bombing in Hiroshima? How did the unemployment in Germany caused by the Great Depression contribut…

I have my research question picked out and my sources picked out but I have no idea how to start my investigation. My question is "To what extent was the Holodomor responsible for Joseph Stalin’s consolidation of power by 1941?” I would really appreciate some help either tweaking my question or getting some topic suggestions for my investigation. Thank you!!

Hi I was wondering if someone could give me any ideas - I am writing my IA on the civil war, specifically causes and was wondering if anyone could help me put together a question! (I am on a 2 week break from school and I want to have my draft close to completed before I go back) I was thinking I could ask "Was the election of Abraham Lincoln the primary cause of the Secession of southern states" but my history teacher has said something about me needing to be able to argue against this, and was just wondering if anybody knew of any other angles or aspects of the causes I could look into! thankyou dearies

Hi everyone, I've been trying to narrow down my IA question for history. It is on the topic of Fidel Castro and his significance in Women's rights in Cuba. I want my question to be, "How significant was Fidel Castro's role for Gender equality in Cuba". However, I feel as if this is too broad and I won't be able to go into depth for every single aspect of the answer. My question is whether I should be more specific and focus on how he helped women in the workforce or military. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Are there any History books that focus solely on Mao's Hundred Flowers campaign? Most of the books that I have concentrate on a huge period of China's history, but I only really need to read about this one event.

Lots of people seem to have trouble with the Causes of the Spanish Civil War, so as revision for my exam tomorrow I'm gonna make it simple through a guide, containing all of the essay factors! To start, the political spectrum: Right Wing - Nationalists. Includes Army, Church, landowners, monarchists, CEDA, and Franco's Fascist Party, Falange. Left Wing - Republicans. Includes socialists, communists, anarchists, trade unionists and moderate liberals. The Long-Term causes include Socio-Economic, Army and Church, and political system/factors. These led to a desire for change, which manifests itself in the short term cause of the Second Republic 1931-1936. This led to polaris…

I would like to choose a topic for my IA regarding Mao's China, specifically the Great Leap Forward. I was thinking about my research question and how it would look, and I was thinking something along the lines of "To what extent did the great leap forward impact China's economy" but I don't know if that topic is too broad or if there is even any information on it at all. Thanks to anyone who helps!

So I already have lots of sources for my IA and I think I can start reading and actually doing the internal assessment already but I feel overwhelmed by the amount of information. And it's not even that much, I have like six or seven sources, one of them is super long but I guess I can find the most useful part, and the other ones are like 10-20 pages. I just don't know where to start, Reading all the sources and trying to find relevant information to my question seems so difficult, plus I haven't even decided my question. I know more or less how it will be, but my teacher said that it's easier to find a question after you have the information. I actually agree and think …

Hey everyone! This past summer I had to move to a new school due to the effects that COVID-19 had on my family, and I am trying to complete all of my requirements completely virtual with new teachers. I recently submitted my HOTA IA rough draft for review and on Part B I was scored a 6/15 due to not having an evaluation of perspectives. My topic focuses on how the progressive movements helped the women's suffrage movement so I used the anti-suffragist movement as a differing perspective. Can someone with an understanding of the IA please explain what this part of the rubric is looking for, and if so, how I could potentially improve to gain some more points? Thanks!

Hey, recently I've been struggling with coming up with a proper research question since history is my weakest subject. I've decided I want to do it about something related to Stalin but I am not sure yet, I have until 4th march to decide. After researching a lot of it I came up with The "Holodomor" in Ukraine which Stalin tried to cover it and clear his personality. My question is: To what extent is the "Holodomor" from 1932 to 1933 in Ukraine a determining factor in explaining Stalin's cult of personality? (I am taking SL) Any suggestions would help me a lot, as I said, history is my weakest subject. Thanks

I need some help deciding on my group 3. My school only offers History HL and Psychology HL, so I'm basically being forced to sacrifice one of my HL's to group 3. I'm interested in both, I like learning about history, and I also find Psychology fascinating. Ultimately, the deciding factor for my will be the IA. Which IA is easier? Hi, My school has chosen the following topics for our paper 3: Topic 10 (Nationalism and independence in India (1919–1964)), Topic 14 (The People’s Republic of China (1949–2005)) and Topic 15 ( Cold War conflicts in Asia). What are some useful resources (textbooks, websites, journal articles, etc.) for the exams? Does anyone have notes on these topics that they are willing to share? I am having trouble finding relevant information for these topics. I've been deciding over the type of topics that I should write my EE on and the following are just some that came up my mind: Events related to Japanese Expansionism Rape of Nanking Events related to China/ Asia Are there any suggestions about these topics (or suggestions about any other topics related to Asia?) and will it be hard to find sources if I write my EE on Chinese history (1900s)? Hey! I'm about to start research for my IA, and I've done a little bit so far, but I think I decided on this as my question: To what extent did Belgian colonization of Rwanda lead to tensions through Hutu subjugation and ultimately contribute to the Rwandan genocide? I wanted to talk about how when Belgium took over in 1918, they allowed the Tutsis to practice control over the Hutus, causing the class divide/tensions to deepen. Is this good? Does it need to be more specific?

So this is probably one of the most-asked questions regarding History lol. I always get 7s on paper 1s (bc they're easier, and more direct to structure) My paper 2s always get 6s, tops. I always write around 5 pages (I write really fast), but my teacher says I have too much evidence and not enough analysis. What counts as analysis, and how do I boost the paper 2 to a 7? Thank you so much

Hi there! I chose my EE topic to be economic reforms in China under Deng Xiaoping's rule. But I have a slight problem with making a research question for it. What I had in mind was something like "How successful was Chinese economic transformation in 1980s" but it seems a bit too broad. I also came up with "How far were American Chinese relations beneficial for China during its economic transformation? but then will I have enough things to write about? I need your help guys, preferably as soon as possible. If you have any ideas about similar topics, please let me know as well

Heyy! My history teacher has randomly gone off the radar over summer, so I'm here looking for advice on my IA topic (HL) At the moment my inquiry question is "To what extent did the assassination of Indira Gandhi repair the relationship between Sikhs and Hindus?" I came to this as I thought arguing that it repaired the relationship would be an interesting and "controversial" stance to take considering the riots and social divide that shortly followed. Anyways, how's the topic? Is the premise narrow enough or do I need to be more specific and include "repair the relationship as a long term consequence" or something along those lines? Does the wording need tweaking? …

Hello! I am currently in the process of writing my history EE, I have my topic question which is as follows: To what extend did 9/11 have on the safety of domestic commercial aviation? I see a lot of people saying to not write about 9/11, but I believe since I'm talking about the aviation industry as a result of 9/11 I'm okay, and I haven't heard my advisor say anything bad about it. Hi guys, Do you think it'd be a good idea to do the History IA on 9/11? Many recommend not to do it on 9/11 as it's recent (even though it occurred 10+ years ago), and also people say it'd be hard to find sources on it due to it being recent. I was thinking about doing it on something syllabus related, such as the World Wars, period between the World Wars, Cold War, Dictators (Hitler/Stalin), but many say these topics have been overdone to death, thus it's best to avoid them, and do something that is not overdone like 9/11. What do you guys recommend? I have asked some people already (1 being on this forum), but I'm looking for more suggestions, as I don't want to sta…

French Revolution History IA Formulating my question for my HL History IA... The American Revolution played a significant role in starting the French Revolution. Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows how to format the History IA, as in Chicago, MLA, APA? I heard that the citations should be in Chicago but I'm not sure if that was right, can somebody confirm? Or does it not matter and you just have to have a cover page, 3 sections, and citations? Also I'm not sure if it's against the rules or something, but I'm new to the forum and don't have VIP, do you think someone can help me get this file, so that I can check how he formatted it. Thanks a lot,

My History IA question is something along the lines of "TWE were Hitler's expansionist policies a response to the border changes imposed by the Treaty of Versailles." I obviously have to find two sources to analyse on this. If anyone knows of any short-ish (25 pgs or under) sources (either primary or secondary) which discuss this I would be incredibly grateful! Thank you in advance x

So, I've been really struggling to come up with a historical investigation topic, but I finally maybe found one? I'm too sure how good it is though: To what extent did Grigori Rasputin lead to the fall of the Romanov Dynasty? (Or something along those lines...I don't really know). If y'all have any feedback (is it a good one? how do I make it better?). I really just wanna get this assignment done cause I'm not that interested in history. *EDIT: So I'm actually thinking about doing something alone the lines of "To what extent did fascism impact early to mid-20th century Italian art?" I'm just worried it won't really be a history paper, but an art one instead.*

Hey yall so my teacher wants us to have my IA topic decided now so when I actually do my IA, there'll be no problems finding a topic. I have to choose my history IA research question soon, but I'm not quite sure whether or not I should word them differently or change certain parts. Compare and contrast the methods used to accuse and penalize women during the Salem witch trials of 1692 and the persecution of witches of Matthew Hopkins of 1644-47? To what extent did Tibuta’s confession start the mass hunt for witches in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692?

Hey there! I was just wondering if anyone knows any good history resources to use. It's quite hard for me to memorize a lot so I'm very slow in comparison to my classmates because I like to take notes on the side of my book to get a better understanding.
